Overview

The Committee for Members in Practice (CMP) is a non-standing Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, formed under the regulatory provisions of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949. It was established in February 2010 under the nomenclature ‘Committee for Capacity Building of CA Firms and Small & Medium Practitioners’ (CCBCAF & SMP) by combining previously formed committees.

Renamed in 2015 as ‘Committee for Capacity Building of Members in Practice’ and in 2020 as ‘Committee for Members in Practice’, the Committee aims to enhance the capacity building of Members in Practice & CA firms. It collaborates with various vendors to provide software, social security, finance, and other beneficial schemes to practitioners.

Terms of Reference

Address issues faced by CA Firms & Members in Practice, review regulatory impediments, and suggest changes to strengthen CA firms and practitioners while enhancing competence and visibility.
Review regulatory impediments for networking, mergers, LLP, MDP, and other consolidation measures for CA firms & members and suggest guidance for effective implementation.
Promote collaboration among professionals to establish a bridge between practitioners and CA firms via capacity building and consolidation measures.
Create IT platforms for CA firms & members to provide effective and value-added services through a technical forum.
Conduct workshops, summits, seminars, MDPs, EDPs, refresher courses, orientation programs, certificate courses, and post-qualification programs in India & abroad to enhance members’ knowledge base.
Develop or provide IT-enabled services and knowledge content to facilitate professional requirements, improve skills in finance, accounts, tax, audit, and other contemporary subjects.
Facilitate beneficial products and services for skill development, knowledge management, personal/professional security, and professional growth of members.
Prescribe or recommend the minimum scale of fees for professional assignments by Chartered Accountants.
Interact and network with MSME, ministries, national/international entities, practitioners, and CA firms to explore newer areas of profession.
Develop ways to empower young, senior, and practicing members and CA firms through focused committee endeavors.

Key Initiatives 2025–26

As part of its Action Plan for 2025–26, the Committee for Members in Practice (CMP) has identified key emerging areas of professional opportunities to open new avenues for practicing Chartered Accountants. This initiative addresses growing demands in the professional ecosystem and promotes future-oriented practice development. Some initiatives will be in collaboration with other ICAI Committees.

Methodology and Implementation Strategy

Development of Resource Pool: EOIs were invited from members across India for Master Trainers, Trainers, and Content Writers. Experts were shortlisted after evaluation.
Consultative Expert Discussions: Meetings with shortlisted experts and committees defined the scope of services for each domain, forming the workshop content and delivery plan.
Programme Structure Design: Expert input helped develop a practical, valuable, and consistent workshop structure across all locations.
Train-the-Trainer / Faculty Development Programme (FDP): One or two-day programmes ensure uniformity in delivery and learning outcomes nationwide.
Background Material Development: Experts prepare workshop materials peer-reviewed for accuracy, relevance, and quality.
Focus on Professional Values, Attitude & Empowering Habits: Each course includes content to develop members personally and professionally.
Outreach and Execution Plan: Meetings with regional councils schedule workshops across the country based on interest and requests.

MSME Support: State-wise groups for MSME consultancy are being established; EOIs have been shared.
